Serious, steadfast, a bit mysterious yet still a boy at heart, Riku is the more cool and collected of the infamous trio childhood friends of Kairi, Sora, and himself. He's can be a bit arrogant and while he tries to pride himself on being the better between him and Sora, complete with contests and taunting, he cares for his friend, and watches over him and Kairi with great concern. He still is rather upset with himself for falling into the lull of the darkness so easily and hearting his dear friends and as such, can come off as a bit of cold and standoffish to them, when in truth, it's really that he doesn't trust himself--even when he was alerted that he had to defeat Roxas, Sora's other to bring his friend back, he couldn't find himself physically hurting the other to do it, and had to resort to using the power of darkness left in him from his posession--a very risky move--a reflection of sorts about how remorseful Riku really is and how much he despises what he has become. He's more emotionally fragile than Sora, and is a foil character to him and his strength in the light, being more easily troubled and weighed down despite the fact he's physically been proven as more powerful. While Sora has flourished from his sudden and unexpected departure from thier home in Destiny Islands, Riku had fallen to the point he had to pick himself up from the broken pieces so to speak. He, like Sora and Kairi has grown, but in a rather jaded way, but with the reunion with his friends as well as his self-imposed reform, Riku is on his way back to his self once again. Riku grew up in the Destiny Islands with his childhood friends Sora and Kairi--the three of them being inseperable even as they grew older to the point of teenage-dom. Riku is the one who hatched the plan to venture to other worlds and was fully prepared to go adventuring with his two best friends at his side--at least, until thier world was engulfed in darkness. The whispers of new found exploration and seeking the unknown quickly got to the ever stranded-feeling Riku and he accepted without hesitation, extending the invitation to his friends, thinking they'd join--Sora refused, and Kairi disappears. Hurt when he reunites with Sora and finds that the other already has new traveling buddies as well as the fact he seems to have moved on without them, he leaves and promptly embraces the offer to join Maleficent. He manages to find Kairi, convinced that he is the only one really looking, to his dismay she is in a comotose state, and it causes his resolve to crumble, further and further falling into darkness. Realizing his errors too little too late, he allows himself to be sealed with King Mickey in Kingdom Hearts, under going a self-enlightening quest redemption and search for his friends once more. He encounters Castle Oblivion and in there he learns of the Organization XIII and the fate of his friend Sora--venturing into thier world to try and do what he can to return his friend to normal. Trapped in Ansem Riku let the darkness lead him astray, and even though he's made amends, the memories still dig into him and cause him much strife--he simply cannot forgive himself no matter how much he tries.. |
